About St. George's

about usSt. George’s Episcopal Church is a committed, diverse, urban congregation located in Germantown Tennessee, an eastern suburb of Memphis in the heart of the Mid-South. St. George’s primarily serves the communities of Germantown, Collierville, Cordova and Memphis, in the Diocese of West Tennessee.

St. George’s Parish seeks to be a friendly and open congregation. It is made up of “all sorts and conditions” of God’s children, many of whom have been newcomers in recent years and have found a spiritual home as members of St. George's. Our ministries are open to all, and we welcome and enthusiastically invite parishioners to further their own spiritual growth by becoming involved in our many ministry opportunities.

Mission Statement

As St. George’s settles into another exciting year of worship, learning and service, one of the cornerstones of our fellowship is our Mission Statement: "Gather, Discover, Serve"

We gather at God’s table. We share a journey of discovery. We rejoice in serving others through the grace of God in Christ.
  • Gathering incorporates our community’s weekly worship life around the Lord’s Table. It is from this Table that we are fed and nourished with the Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and sustained for our journey. We are also fed as we break bread together in our fellowship life, whether at Sunday morning breakfast or Coffee Hour, at Wednesday Primetimers luncheons, or around dinner tables, whether at Lancers, The Table (for families with children and youth), the Men's Group, our Young Adults ministry, Flying Solo or numerous other events.
  • Our journey of discovery reflects our ongoing opportunities for Christian formation and spiritual growth, including The Forum (our Sunday morning learning for adults), Sunday School for children and youth, small groups such as the Great Courses study group and Education for Ministry (EfM), and special seasonal opportunities, including Bible study groups, “quiet mornings” for reflection, and speakers who share their faith stories with us and challenge us to reflect on our lives as persons of faith.
  • Finally, serving others includes our servant ministries of outreach. From the exciting Team Read program (in which "coaches" spend one hour each week tutoring second graders to improve their reading skills), to the Room in the Inn ministry (through which we help provide hospitality to those without shelter during the winter months), to food drives for Collierville Food Pantry, to serving meals to our neighbors in need each month at More Than a Meal, to serving the children and youth of Emmanuel Center in providing school supplies and Christmas gifts, we leave the Eucharist on Sunday nourished and fed with the spiritual food of our Lord Jesus Christ and go forth to serve in his name in the world. Since 1971, The Arcade at St. George's gathers us all into community and has raised more than $550,000 to benefit area ministries including  MIFA, Emmanuel Center and the Church Health Center. Globally, we support efforts including the West Tennessee Haiti Partnership and the Feed the Hungry initiative through our school-based kitchen in Mexico.
Our Mission Statement serves as the starting point for our resurrected life as part of Christ’s Church on earth. May all we do and say, as representatives of our Lord and St. George’s, reflect these values and serve to help others experience God’s love.
