Dear St. George’s Community
As we anticipate the arrival of cooler temperatures, slower schedules, and time at home with family and friends, I would like to reflect back on the past year at St. George’s and the growth that I have seen and felt within our community. This is a growth that is physical: new faces on Sundays, adding a second Mission Trip this past summer, inquirer classes during the week, but also a growth that is spiritual: coming together to support each other in a season of transition, moments of formation, clear signs of the Holy Spirit working within our community as we look to the future. This past year and a half we have come together as a community to support one another and not only maintain the good works we are doing but also build them up and grow in a time in our Church’s life that has been in transition. We have been blessed to be guided not only by each other but also by Reverend Dorothy White who has watered us and held us through this season. It is time now, however, to begin thinking ahead to our next season and planting what will grow in the coming year.
What will it take to ensure that our community continues to grow and be fed in the year ahead? We know that it will take time, commitment, dedication, and the many talented gifts of our congregants, but it will also take money. It is that time of year that we ask you to reflect on your own blessings, look at what you have to contribute, and help us ensure that our growth continues. We know that everyone’s contribution is directed according to their own ability, and please know that your time and talent are a tithe in of itself. However, if you are able and feel called, it also takes monetary contributions to continue the good works and spiritual growth and guidance of the Church. I am confident in our community and I am confident that the Lord is leading us to dig and grow across all aspects of our Church life, and we have set a goal that reflects not only need but also excitement and anticipation at what the future holds.
Colossians 2:7: “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness”.
Our estimate of giving goal this year is $700,000, an increase of 10% from last year, reflecting our own growth as well as natural increase in the broader economic landscape. Please take time in the next few weeks to look over the included documents, fill them out, and return them by October 19th, Stewardship Ingathering Sunday. This helps us to direct resources in the coming year. If you should have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out.
Yours,
Molly M Prewitt
