Local Outreach Ministries

St George's participates in numerous local, national and international projects each year. Some of these are annual projects, others may be one time projects based on the interests of the parish.

Room in the Inn - Let's Welcome Our Guests in Keeping with the Arrival of the Christ child.

Another night of holy hospitality at The Cottage! Many thanks to everyone at St George's Episcopal Church - Germantown, TN who give so much of themselves for this ministry!

If you would like to serve on the St. George's team (1st and 3rd Thursday evenings) or learn more about this ministry in which St. George's and other churches share in providing shelter and hospitality to guests without shelter during the winter months, please call St. George's Team Coordinator John Remsen at 309-241-2690. Lots of opportunities abound to share in this ministry! This is the perfect opportunity for families with teens! Please join us!

 NEW Room in The Inn

St. George’s supports this community-wide ministry by helping to provide transportation, meals and supplies for up to 13 of our neighbors who are without shelter during the winter months (November through March). A dedicated space is provided by Germantown United Methodist Church, with whom we partner for this ministry.

Team Read

Team Read at Oak Forest Elementary

St. George's fourth year of Team Read at Oak Forest Elementary is complete.   Our thanks to 28 of our members, along with members of Germantown Presbyterian and Beth Sholom synagogue, for their commitment to help students learn and comprehend their sight words.

At the beginning of the school year, only 5 students knew more than 300 sight words.  By the end of the Team Read year, 33 out of 49 students knew more than 300 sights words and the average % change in the students' reading scores was 236%.

The ways we touched the students' lives were not limited to their reading scores.  One of the teachers said it best, "Thank you to the entire Team Read team for arming my students with the necessary foundational skills in reading.  Several of my students who continue to struggle, but not as much, exhibit a sense of pride."

MIFA Meals on Wheels

mow1St. George's supports MIFA's Meals on Wheels program with our monthly Fourth Friday route. Since delivering our first meals in 2009, we continue to serve in this rewarding ministry and invite anyone interested to join us. To see the smiling faces of seniors whose days are brightened and whose independence in their homes continues because of this ministry is truly a joy and reward for us all!

The Meals on Wheels team delivers meals on the 4th Friday of every month.
